Permanent | Part time (21 hours per week)
Salary: £14,768

We are recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Durham.

You’ll work 3 full days per week (07:30–16:00) – ideally Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with flexibility to agree days.

What you’ll typically be doing:

• Grass cutting, hedge trimming, weed control and general grounds upkeep
• Planting, pruning, seeding and basic tree care
• Leaf, litter and verge clearance
• Setting out and maintaining sports pitches
• Drainage works and equipment painting
• Using light plant, power tools and garden machinery

What we’re looking for:

• Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening or horticulture
• Understanding of health & safety
• Comfortable working in a prison environment
• Spraying certification (or willingness to be trained)
• Full UK driving licence – desirable

Prison security clearance (incl. Standard DBS) is required – full support provided by Amey.
