Highways Inspector

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Highways Inspector to join our dynamic Trafford team at our Trafford Depot in Manchester, (M23 9LF). This role will be carried out onsite.

This position offers a competitive and overtime paid at time and a half.

The standard working hours for this role are 37.5 hours a week.

As a Permanent Highways Inspector, your role is crucial in maintaining the safety and functionality of the Trafford highway network. You’ll conduct inspections, enforce regulations, and initiate repairs, directly impacting community safety and wellbeing.

Your efforts will prevent accidents and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. By ensuring well-maintained roads, you’ll also enhance transportation efficiency and support economic growth.

Your technical expertise and diligent monitoring will help build trust and confidence in our services, making a tangible difference in the daily lives of highway users and contributing to the excellence of the Trafford Account.

The successful candidate may be required to assist with incidents that may have occurred outside normal working hours in the interest of the service, such as for an emergency.

What You’ll Do:

• Inspect highways and public rights of way, identify defects and necessary repairs, and ensure safety and accessibility for all users.
• Investigate and respond to customer service enquiries, complaints, and communications, providing clear and detailed feedback.
• Take immediate action to remove dangers, address infringements of highway law, and enforce regulations by serving notices.
• Document and photograph issues that might lead to accident claims against the Authority, and assist in preparing investigatory reports on third-party insurance claims.
• Perform general administration duties related to highway issues and cover for other Area Inspectors as directed by the Employer.
• Use a provided vehicle during working hours, with mandatory driving licence checks conducted by a third party at regular intervals.

What You’ll Bring:

• Full UK driving licence
• GCSE or equivalent level in Maths & English at Grade C
• Lantra trained in Highways Safety inspections (Desirable)
• Proven technical experience in the Highways, Streetworks and Construction Sector (Desirable)
