BuildForce appointed military employment partner on HS2

We are delighted to share with you some incredible news about our formal appointment as the lead military partner on HS2. This formalises the role we have had on the HS2 project over the years and builds on the successful transition of the many ex-Service personnel we have placed on the project to date; with many more to follow.

We look forward to collaborating with all areas of the Armed Forces community to provide the best service and clear pathway for employment of our Service Leavers and Veterans, on this exceptional project.

Media Comms:

Today HS2 Ltd announced the launch of its new job brokerage model. HS2 is Britain’s new high-speed railway and construction of the first phase of the route between Birmingham and London is now underway, creating thousands of new jobs. The new HS2 Jobs Board, launched as part of the job brokerage model, will showcase these roles, making it easier for the ex-services community to search and find the very latest vacancies.

With this launch, comes the appointment of BuildForce as HS2’s military Job Brokerage Partner. BuildForce is the industry’s largest nationwide programme which supports ex-Services personnel to transition into long term careers in construction and the built environment. This industry-led collaboration has been reducing skill gaps, labour shortages, and addressing the lack of diversity in industry since 2011.

Brigadier (Retired) Mike Hickson OBE, HS2 Ltd.’s Programme Integration Office (PIO) Director said:

“I’m really pleased to see this initiative launched and delighted that HS2 is involving BuildForce as its military job brokerage partner. Together with its wide network of referral organisations, BuildForce will give sight of opportunities to the wider armed forces community and, by giving access to veterans, build on the successes already achieved in supporting individuals into civilian employment with our contractors delivering the HS2 programme. This is a first for a large UK infrastructure project and it really demonstrates how HS2 and its supply chain is providing opportunities to communities up and down the line of route.”

Angela Forbes, BuildForce Chief Executive commented:

“We are honoured and absolutely thrilled to be appointed the military Job Brokerage Partner. Whilst BuildForce is making huge strides on HS2, both raising the profile of our ex-Service personnel and supporting them secure long-term careers, this is just the beginning. Parts of industry are still missing out on the tremendous benefits of hiring our Veterans and Service Leavers, and with the support of HS2 we are creating opportunities both for our country and for those who have served it.

We look forward to supporting our Service Leavers and Veterans and to collaborating with the wider ex-Services community to create an incredible offering on this tremendous project.”

Caroline Logan, BuildForce Programme Director added:

“I am absolutely delighted to cement our ongoing relationship with HS2 and its construction partners, recognising the great work we are already doing in this space; connecting our military personnel to sustainable employment across the project from logistics to project management to plant operators, to mention just a few roles we have successfully placed over the years.  We are looking forward to working with HS2’s wider supply chain; building on our Mentor network and Work Placement programme, creating more opportunities for our candidates and a wealth of talent for HS2.”

Please join me in thanking the BuildForce team for their incredible efforts on HS2 and to our many successful years ahead on the project.
