BuildForce April 2025 Blog

Our monthly blog is from our Chief Exec Angela Forbes MBE:

As I sit here to write our monthly blog, it is early morning, and I have just read the newspaper enjoying a blissful cup of coffee and chocolate digestive. Jeremy Clarkson, my usual Sunday morning guilty pleasure, tickles me as I avidly read his column with pleasure and delight each week – it means I have got to the end of the newspaper after reading of political dismay, global turmoil, and local ineptness. So, this article with its light-hearted satire and sharp wit, sets me up nicely for the rest of the day. However, this morning Mr Clarkson would definitely have been given a Paddington Bear’s Aunt Lucy hard stare, if he were in the room. The article spoke with hilarity of bizarre scams and the foolishness of its victims. Noting one scam not fully exploited is CV fraud with our Army being too honest about their quals and achievements. Clarky-baby went on to say they should claim to have elite-University degrees and achieved the highest ranks of service and battle exploits, as no one ever checks. Now, when a CV references our Armed Forces, my respect levels go through the roof. When they have signed up as a young Private or equivalent, I think credit to you – bravery, dedication, and inner strength right there on the page for the rest of us to applaud. They do not need a poncy degree or to embellish their service; they need the rest of us to understand and appreciate what their service means. Perhaps no one does check their CV; one should not need to. A military CV is like a good decent politician, priceless exactly as it is.

On another note, I sit here a little achy, having completed a half-marathon yesterday (my first), I’d like to shout out to all those who have inspired me- our Ultra Trek team; our marathon and half-marathons runners; our Armed Forces Day trekkers; our supporter and superstar Sally Orange MBE. However, I would like to shout out to our very own Caroline Logan. Thank you for leading our sports programme to raise funds for the BuildForce Give-Back Mental Health programme, thank you for being my inspiration – I ran this for my family, of which you are very much a part.
The photos are my before and after (walking in heels after a half-marathon was extremely optimistic on my part!!!!).

Finally, we have commenced 4-days of celebrations and remembrance as we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. A time for us all to remember, reflect and honour the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of those who fought for our peace and freedom in the UK and across Europe.
BuildForce proudly supports our Armed Forces and Veteran community and we thank our construction industry partners for their incredible support. We thank our serving Armed Forces and their families, for their ongoing service and sacrifices in keeping our nation safe. Our heroes.
