Virtual Career Chat: NHBC Building Inspector Role

NHBC is the largest provider of new homes warranties in the UK.  NHBC core purpose is to raise standards in house building by championing high-quality homes and protecting homeowners.

To achieve this purpose, they conduct key stage inspections during construction of all new homes that they provide warranties for.  This is delivered by a network of building inspectors across the UK.

Building inspectors serve a ‘patch’ of house building sites close to them, regularly visiting the site managers to review progress and providing feedback the standard of the work.  They need people who have an eye for detail, can quickly build relationships, and have great communication skills.  Their trainee programme provides the technical background to enable transition from the Armed Forces to building inspector. Half of NHBC’s veterans are in the building inspection function.

You will hear from a veteran building inspector and another veteran who is a more senior member of this function.  They will be able to highlight how their military skills have enabled them to succeed in these roles.
